History
Revived from the 1960s nameplate, the modern S-Type debuted at the 1998 Birmingham Motor Show and went on sale in 1999 as a Ford-era mid-size saloon sharing its platform with the Lincoln LS. Its retro-inspired styling drew mixed views but it broadened Jaguar's reach and sold strongly.
A 2004 facelift modernised it, and the line-topping supercharged S-Type R brought genuine performance. Around 291,000 were built before production ended in 2007–2008, when the radically modern XF replaced it.
