Isuzu VehiCROSS History

The VehiCROSS began life as a 1993 Tokyo Motor Show concept before Isuzu green-lit it for production, selling it in Japan from 1997 and in the United States from the 1999 model year. It shared underpinnings with the Trooper but wore dramatically sculpted, concept-car styling — plastic cladding, flared arches, and bold body-color contrasts — that looked like nothing else on US roads.

Under the skin it used Isuzu's Torque-on-Demand intelligent AWD system and a 3.5-liter V6 shared with the contemporary Trooper, making it a capable off-roader despite its show-car appearance. US sales ran through the 2001 model year; only 4,153 VehiCROSS units were sold in the US across three years, making it genuinely rare. It remains a cult object among Isuzu enthusiasts.
