Isuzu P'up / Pickup History

Isuzu launched its compact pickup in the United States for the 1981 model year as the P'up, initially sold alongside the mechanically related Chevrolet LUV (which GM dropped after the 1982 model year in favour of its own S-10). The P'up offered a choice of gasoline four-cylinder or turbodiesel engines — the diesel version being a genuine novelty in the US compact-truck market.

The P'up name was retired after 1987 and the truck continued as simply 'Pickup' from 1988, built at the Indiana Subaru-Isuzu plant. The nameplate ended after the 1995 model year as Isuzu refocused its US efforts on the Rodeo and Trooper SUVs.
