Iran Khodro Tara History
History
The Tara (internal code K132) originated from the 2016 IKAP joint venture between Iran Khodro and Peugeot, which planned to produce the Peugeot 301, 208, and 2008 in Iran. When the United States reinstated sanctions in 2018 and Peugeot suspended the partnership, IKCO continued developing the 301-based project independently, adapting the PSA PF1 architecture into a localized version called the IKP1 platform.
Unveiled in December 2020 and entering mass production in early 2021, the Tara is IKCO's first C-segment sedan on a contemporary platform. It is powered by a Peugeot-licensed TU5+ 1.6-liter four-cylinder producing 113 hp, with five- or six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission options, and meets Euro 5 emissions standards. The Tara represents the most technically modern product in Iran Khodro's domestic car range as of 2026.
