Innocenti 950 Spider / 1100 Spider History

Unveiled in 1961, the Innocenti Spider used the chassis of the Austin-Healey Sprite Mk II and wore open-top coachwork designed by Ghia and built by OSI near Milan. Powered initially by a 948 cc A-series engine and priced to compete with the Sprite it was mechanically based on, it became Innocenti's most glamorous offering of the era.

In 1963 the engine was enlarged to 1098 cc, at which point the model was effectively renamed the 1100 Spider. The car sold primarily in Italy and continental Europe, where its Italian styling gave it an edge over the plainer British original. Production of the open car ended in 1968, just as Innocenti introduced its closed Coupe variant.
