History

The FX launched for 2003 as the FX35 and FX45 — a dramatically styled sport crossover on the FM rear-drive car platform shared with the G35, at a time when most luxury crossovers were still truck-based. The FX35 used a 3.5-liter V6 and the FX45 a 4.5-liter V8. Unusually for its era, it prioritized driving dynamics over maximum utility.

A second generation arrived for 2009 (longer, restyled, and adding a new FX50 5.0-liter V8 variant) and was renamed QX70 for the 2014 model year as part of Infiniti's brand-wide naming reset. The QX70 was quietly discontinued after the 2017 model year without a direct successor.
