Hudson Commodore History

The Commodore arrived for 1941 as Hudson's top-trim full-size car, offered with both six- and eight-cylinder engines. Production paused during World War II and resumed for 1946 with lightly facelifted prewar styling.

For 1948 the Commodore moved to the all-new step-down body alongside the rest of the range, becoming the upscale, longer-wheelbase senior Hudson. It was sold as the Commodore Six and Commodore Eight; the smooth flathead straight-eight was Hudson's traditional luxury powerplant. The Commodore was phased out after 1952 as the Hornet and a restructured lineup took over.
