Hino Blue Ribbon History
History
Introduced in December 1952 as the BD10/30, the Blue Ribbon was Japan's first bus with a European-style center under-floor engine layout. The design freed the full length of the bus for passenger space, and it immediately became the standard configuration for Japanese city operators. Early sales grew from 225 units in 1952 to 1,385 by 1956.
In 1991 Hino equipped the Blue Ribbon with the world's first commercially available hybrid transit drivetrain — a landmark event in vehicle electrification. The nameplate has continued in production through successive generations, with modern Blue Ribbon buses offering full hybrid and, more recently, electric variants for urban transit fleets.
