History

Hino entered the heavy-duty long-haul truck market in 1981 with the 'Super Dolphin,' a cab-over tractor and rigid designed for Japanese toll-road and long-distance freight. Its aerodynamic cab was a marketing point in an era when fuel costs were rising rapidly after the oil shocks.

The name 'Profia' was adopted in May 1992 when the model underwent a significant update, becoming the 'Super Dolphin Profia.' A fully redesigned New Profia launched in April 2017 with a new exterior, J-OBD II on-board diagnostics, pre-collision warning, and tyre-pressure monitoring. Outside Japan the truck is sold as the Hino 700 Series.
