The 1969 model year

Overview

Ford's 1969 Bronco range comprised regular and Sport versions of the Wagon and Pickup. The Roadster no longer appeared in the factory brochure, and the powertrain choice changed to a standard 170-cubic-inch six or new optional 302-cubic-inch V8, both with the synchronized three-speed manual.

Year over year

What changed

  • The open Roadster disappeared from the advertised range, leaving Wagon and Pickup in regular and Sport form.
  • The optional V8 grew from 289 to 302 cubic inches and was rated at 205 gross horsepower in Ford's table.
  • The synchronized three-speed manual remained the only transmission listed.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • Ford listed 100 gross horsepower for the standard 170 six and 205 gross horsepower for the optional 302 V8.
  • The brochure advertised 6,000-mile chassis lubrication, oil and oil-filter changes, and air-cleaner service.

Living with it

Reliability & ownership notes

  • Confirm whether a survivor began as a regular or Sport Wagon/Pickup before restoration; trim and removable-body changes can obscure the original factory model.
  • Match service and driveline parts to the installed 170 six or 302 V8 and verify that later engine or transmission swaps have not changed fitment.
