Ferrari F355 History

Launched at the 1994 Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari F355 was a step-change improvement over the 348 it replaced. Displacement grew to 3.5 litres and the V8 gained five valves per cylinder, pushing output to 375 hp and giving the F355 an 8,250 rpm redline that produced a howling engine note enthusiasts still regard as one of the greatest in the marque's history.

Ferrari offered three body styles — Berlinetta coupé, GTS targa, and Spider convertible — and in 1997 added the first F1-style electrohydraulic paddle-shift gearbox to a road car under the '355 F1' designation, presaging a technology that would become a Ferrari signature.

Total production of 11,273 units (1994–1999) made the F355 the most-produced Ferrari to that point, and critical acclaim helped restore Maranello's reputation for driver-focused dynamics after the 348's mixed reviews.
