Ferrari 458 History

The Ferrari 458 Italia debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as the F430's successor, powered by an entirely new 4.5-litre naturally aspirated flat-plane V8 producing 562 hp at 9,000 rpm. The engine's throttle response, soundtrack, and specific output — around 125 hp per litre — immediately drew comparisons to Ferrari's finest V12s.

Alongside the coupé, Ferrari offered the 458 Spider (2011) with a retractable hardtop, followed by the 458 Speciale (2013) track-focused variant delivering 596 hp, active aerodynamics, and Ferrari's second-generation Side Slip Control. The Speciale earned near-universal acclaim as the benchmark naturally aspirated sports car of its era.

The 458 family was produced from 2009 to 2015 before turbocharging arrived with the 488. Its legacy is cemented as the last Ferrari V8 sports car to use natural aspiration — a configuration Maranello consciously paid homage to with the F8 Tributo's name years later.
