History
Officially named the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 but universally known as the 'Daytona' (after Ferrari's 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours), this grand tourer debuted at the 1968 Paris Motor Show. Its 4.4-litre quad-cam V12 produced 352 hp and propelled it to a claimed top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph) — making it the world's fastest production car at launch.
Pininfarina's Leonello Fioravanti designed the long-bonnet fastback body, and the Daytona's combination of brutish power and elegant lines made it an immediate icon. A rare Spider variant (121 examples, plus a larger number of subsequent factory or workshop conversions) has become extremely valuable.
Production of the coupé ran from 1968 to 1973 with approximately 1,284 built; it was succeeded by the mid-engine Berlinetta Boxer. The Daytona was also raced successfully in GT competition, with a class win at the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hours.
