Ferrari 296 GTB History

The Ferrari 296 GTB was revealed in June 2021 and entered production in 2022 as a mid-engine plug-in hybrid sports car — Ferrari's second PHEV road car after the SF90 Stradale but the first to use a V6 rather than a V12. The 120-degree bank angle 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 produces 654 hp; combined with a 122-kW (164-hp) electric motor, total system output is 830 hp.

The V6 configuration allowed a lower centre of gravity and more compact packaging than the V8 it effectively succeeded, while the electric motor enables a limited all-electric city-driving mode. Ferrari offered an Assetto Fiorano package with titanium exhaust, Multimatic shock absorbers, and carbon-fibre components for track use.

A 296 GTS folding-hardtop Spider was introduced alongside the GTB. The 296 is Ferrari's current entry mid-engine sports car and represents the brand's clearest statement that electrification can enhance rather than dilute driving character.
