Donkervoort D8 GTO History

Unveiled as a prototype in December 2011 and entering production in 2013, the D8 GTO was a ground-up redesign sharing only around 5% of its parts with the outgoing D8 270. Its all-carbon-fibre body and chassis cut kerb weight to below 700 kg while the longitudinally mounted 2.5-litre five-cylinder Audi TFSI engine produced 340 hp — later raised to 380 hp in the Performance variant — yielding a 0–100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds.

Special variants proliferated during the GTO era: the Bilster Berg Edition (2014–2015, named for the German circuit used for development), the Bare Naked Carbon Edition (2015, all exposed carbon fibre), and the 380 hp GTO RS (2016–2021). The JD70 and JD70 R editions (2019–2020) commemorated founder Joop Donkervoort's 70th birthday and his retirement from the company in 2019.

The Individual Series (2021–2022) closed out D8 production with fully customised, bespoke cars. Donkervoort announced the end of the D8 line in October 2022 after nearly three decades of the D8 nameplate, pricing final examples from €162,900 in Europe.
