Devel Sixteen History
History
Devel Motors unveiled the Sixteen concept at the November 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, making the extraordinary claim that a 12.3-litre quad-turbocharged V16 engine would produce 5,007 hp and propel the car to a top speed of 350 mph (560 km/h). The figures drew immediate scepticism from the automotive press, but the car generated global headlines and established Devel as a name in the ultracar conversation.
In 2015 Devel partnered with US engine builder Steve Morris Engines, which produced and dyno-tested the V16 on video — lending at least partial credibility to the powertrain. A production-ready body design was unveiled at the 2017 Dubai Auto Show on 14 November 2017, at which Devel also clarified its retail lineup: a V8 variant producing roughly 2,000 hp, priced from approximately $1.6 million, and a street-legal V16 version rated at around 3,006 hp, priced from approximately $1.8 million. The 5,007-hp V16 was characterised by founder Rashid Al-Attari as a track-only dragster rather than a road car.
A V10 prototype was reportedly built in mid-2022. As of 2024 no confirmed volume production or customer deliveries have been publicly documented, keeping the Sixteen in the realm of hypercar ambition rather than established production vehicle — an honest characterisation the site carries rather than overstating.
