Denza Denza X History

Unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2019, the Denza X was a significant step up from the original Denza EV: a larger, seven-seat mid-size crossover sharing its platform with the second-generation BYD Tang but restyled with strong Mercedes-Benz design influence. It was offered in both a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration — a 2.0-litre turbo engine plus two electric motors — and a full-battery-electric (BEV) version, both with all-wheel drive.

Despite the more compelling product, the Denza X sold in limited numbers, held back by the brand's modest awareness outside enthusiast circles and by the rapid evolution of China's EV market. Sales ran from early 2020 through 2021. When BYD took near-total control of Denza at the end of 2021, the X was effectively ended and its successor — the rebodied Denza N8 — was developed for the restructured brand.
