Daimler Majestic Major History

The Majestic Major (chassis code DQ450) developed the earlier 3.8-litre six-cylinder Daimler Majestic into a full-size luxury saloon powered by Edward Turner's 4½-litre (4,561 cc) hemi-head V8 — the larger sibling of the V8 used in the SP250 sports car. It produced about 220 bhp and gave the heavy saloon genuine sports-car pace.

Sold from late 1960 to 1968, the Majestic Major could reach around 120 mph and drew praise from the contemporary press for performance that embarrassed many sports cars of the day. A long-wheelbase limousine, the DR450, was also built. Roughly 1,180 Majestic Majors were produced before Jaguar — which had bought Daimler in 1960 — discontinued it.
