Daimler Conquest History

The Daimler Conquest, built from 1953 to January 1958, replaced the Consort as Daimler's moderately sized saloon and was based on the platform of the Lanchester Fourteen (Lanchester being Daimler's companion BSA marque). The name reportedly nodded to its launch list price of £1,066 — a play on the year of the Norman Conquest.

From 1954 the higher-performance Conquest Century used an aluminium-head, twin-SU-carburettor version of the 2.4-litre six producing about 100 bhp, against the standard car's 75 bhp; the Century saloon was the best-seller of the range. Drophead coupe and roadster bodies were also offered. About 9,793 Conquests were built in total before the model gave way to Daimler's later Jaguar-era cars.
