Daimler Double-Six (1972–1997) History

Jaguar revived the historic Double-Six name in 1972 for the Daimler-badged, V12-engined version of the Jaguar XJ — the most luxurious car in the combined range. It paired the Daimler fluted grille and top-trim interior with Jaguar's 5.3-litre V12.

The Double-Six ran across the Series 1–3 XJ, then the XJ40-based XJ81 and the X305 cars, with the engine evolving from the 5.3-litre to the 5.3 HE and finally a 6.0-litre V12 (1993–1997). Jaguar/Daimler V12 production ended in 1997 — the last V12 car, a long-wheelbase XJ12, left the Coventry line on 17 April 1997 — retiring the Double-Six name a second time.
