Daewoo Lanos History
Daewoo's first truly original compact — a Giugiaro-designed subcompact/compact sold worldwide, later built under licence in Ukraine for years after Daewoo's collapse.

History
Introduced in late 1997, the Lanos was the smallest of Daewoo's three new original models (alongside the Nubira and Leganza) and the first genuine Daewoo design rather than a GM rebadge. Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, it was offered as a three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback, and four-door sedan, powered by 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre E-TEC four-cylinder engines.
Daewoo ceased Korean production of the Lanos in 2002 when GM acquired its assets, but ZAZ in Ukraine continued building licence-built versions for many years afterward — a testament to the car's affordable, adaptable design. The Lanos was not federalized for the US market under the Daewoo name.
