History

Unveiled as a concept in March 2020 and revealed in production form at Renault's eWays conference in October 2020, the Spring began deliveries to private customers in autumn 2021 as Europe's cheapest electric car. Built in China on the CMF-A platform (closely related to the Renault City K-ZE), it is a compact city crossover with a 27.4 kWh battery offering around 230 km of WLTP range — enough for urban and suburban daily use, delivered at a price that no rival European EV could approach.

The Spring quickly became a reference point for accessible electrification, particularly in France, where government purchase incentives amplified its low base price. It was among the most exported electric cars from China in 2021, sitting behind only the Tesla Model 3 in export volume during the first eight months of that year. A 2026 update introduced a revised platform and two new electric motor options.
