Dacia Duster History
History
Launched in 2010, the Duster was Dacia's boldest gamble since the original Logan: an SUV sold at the price of a city car. With 4×4 capability as an option and a practical, roomy body, it immediately became a bestseller — winning Autobest 2011 and establishing Dacia as a player in the crossover segment that the rest of Europe's budget brands had mostly ignored.
The first generation (2010–2017) sold over 1.6 million units globally before a second generation arrived in 2017 with a cleaner interior and reduced road noise, built on the same B0+ platform. Renault markets the Duster under its own badge in Latin America, Russia, and several Asian and African markets, where it competes as a mainstream rather than budget offering.
The third generation (2023–present), built on the CMF-B platform, introduced mild-hybrid and full-hybrid powertrains for the first time — a significant step for a nameplate that had previously been known solely for affordable petrol and diesel engines. The Duster has been the most popular SUV sold to private buyers in Europe every year since 2018.
