1965Chevrolet Corvette
The Sting Ray — introduced the nameplate, the first Corvette coupe, and independent rear suspension. The 1963 coupe's one-year-only split rear window makes it the most iconic Corvette body.

The 1965 model year
Overview
The 1965 Chevrolet Corvette was the C2 Sting Ray model-year specification for the U.S. market. Its documented factory range comprised 327 cu in small-block V8, 396 cu in big-block V8 with 2-speed Powerglide automatic or 3-speed manual or 4-speed manual.

Year over year
What changed
- Four-wheel disc brakes became standard and the 396 big-block arrived during the model year.
- Contemporaneous primary sources disagree on three-speed availability: September 1964 Chevrolet Service News lists L75 with three-speed and L79 with four-speed only; the September 28 AMA sheet lists the opposite three-speed pattern. February and March 1965 tables list L75 with four-speed or Powerglide and L79 with four-speed only. This dated specification difference does not establish publication order within September, a withdrawal date or customer delivery.
Worth knowing
Notable
- This page records the U.S. 1965 factory powertrain and body-style range rather than borrowing a nearby model year's specification.

Reliability & ownership notes
- For a 1965 Corvette, verify the VIN, installed powertrain and service history against the exact-year GM document; age, modifications and deferred maintenance are more useful evidence than generation-wide reputation.
- Check the NHTSA VIN lookup for unrepaired safety recalls before purchase or road use.
