Aurus Komendant History
History
The Komendant was conceived alongside the Senat as part of the original 2013 Kortezh programme, intended to provide SUV coverage for presidential motorcades. Development was delayed repeatedly — civilian launch was initially planned for late 2020, then pushed to 2022 and again to late 2022. The production-spec Komendant made its public debut on September 29, 2022, and serial production commenced on November 26, 2022, at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone in Tatarstan.
Mechanically the Komendant shares the Senat's hybrid powertrain: a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 598 hp and 880 Nm, mated to a nine-speed automatic with an integrated electric motor and permanent all-wheel drive. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 6.5 seconds. The body measures 5,380 × 2,004 × 1,820 mm on a 3,100 mm wheelbase, and the vehicle weighs approximately 3.2 tonnes. An adaptive air suspension adjusts ground clearance between 200 and 260 mm on the move. Aurus states that roughly 70 % of materials and components are Russian-sourced.
