History
Launched in 1963 as an evolution of the DB4, the DB5 enlarged the straight-six to 4.0 litres and standardised a five-speed ZF gearbox. Just 1,059 were built before production ended in 1965, yet it became the most recognisable Aston Martin ever made.
Its fame is inseparable from James Bond: a DB5 fitted with revolving number plates, an ejector seat, and machine guns appeared in Goldfinger (1964) and again in Thunderball (1965), and the car has returned across the Bond film series for decades. Decades later, in 2018, Aston Martin even built 25 non-road-legal 'Goldfinger Continuation' DB5s recreating the film car's gadgets.
