Alpine A106 History

Jean Rédélé unveiled the A106 in July 1955, barely a month after founding Société des Automobiles Alpine on 25 June 1955 in Dieppe. The A106 used mechanicals from the Renault 4CV — engine, running gear, and floorpan — clothed in a lightweight fiberglass body, reflecting Rédélé's philosophy that weight reduction was more effective than chasing raw power.

Total production reached 251 units between 1955 and 1960 before the A108 took over. Though modest in numbers, the A106 established Alpine's core template: Renault-sourced mechanicals, fiberglass construction, and a rear-engined layout — a formula the marque would refine through the A110 and beyond.
