Aixam City History

Launched in 2008 as the centrepiece of Aixam's 25th-anniversary model refresh, the City replaced the ageing A721 and became the definitive entry-level Aixam. At around 2.8 m long and 1.5 m wide it was engineered for dense European city traffic, seating two in a hatchback body with a modest boot. The standard drivetrain was a 479 cc two-cylinder Kubota diesel rated at 6 kW, governing top speed electronically to 45 km/h.

An electric variant — the e-City, preceded by the Mega e-City shown at the 2006 British International Motor Show — was produced from March 2007 initially as a right-hand drive London-market vehicle, before expanding across Europe from 2009 onward. Lithium-ion battery packs became available from late 2010, extending range to approximately 100 km. This made Aixam one of the earliest European quadricycle manufacturers to offer a production electric vehicle.

The City received its first major exterior refresh in 2016 with new taillights as part of the Sensation range, and a further update with the Emotion range in 2020. Current variants include City Pack, City Sport, and City GTO trims. The nameplate remains in production as of 2026.
