Yangwang U7 History

BYD teased the U7 sedan in September 2023 during the Society of Automotive Engineers of China annual aerodynamics meeting. After a prolonged reveal period, Yangwang formally launched the U7 on March 27, 2025, in China, with a starting price of ¥628,000 (approximately US$86,000 at the time) — lower than the U8 and U9, positioning it as the brand's volume-oriented entry into the luxury sedan segment. Customer deliveries began in June 2025.

The U7 is available in two powertrain configurations. The battery electric version mounts four permanent-magnet synchronous motors (one per wheel via the e⁴ platform) producing a combined 960 kW (1,287 hp), identical to the U9. The launch BEV specification used a 135.5 kWh LFP Blade battery with a claimed 720 km CLTC range; a subsequent update announced in late 2025 and into 2026 added a 150.01 kWh pack option targeting 860–1,006 km CLTC range. The plug-in hybrid variant pairs the same quad-motor layout with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 52.4 kWh battery, giving approximately 200 km of electric-only CLTC range.

In terms of dimensions the U7 is a genuinely large vehicle — 5,265 mm long on a 3,160 mm wheelbase — competing directly with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class in footprint. The DiSus active suspension system from the U8 and U9 carries over, with per-wheel independent control and the ability to compensate for a punctured tyre at low speed. The U7 also inherits the e⁴ platform's tank-turn capability and per-wheel torque vectoring for performance handling.
