Velie Model 58 History

In a bold consolidation move for 1922, Velie dropped all other models and staked the company on the Model 58 alone — an overhead-valve six-cylinder car that the factory pitched as evidence of engineering coherence rather than scattered product proliferation. The OHV design gave improved breathing and efficiency over the side-valve Model 48 it replaced.

The Model 58 was available in touring, roadster, sedan, brougham, and sport configurations. In 1924, Velie added Westinghouse electric ignition to the car, an early step toward simplifying driver operation and one of several modern features the company was early to adopt in the mid-price segment.

The single-model strategy ran through the 1924 model year, giving the Moline factory a cleaner production run and setting the stage for the more refined Model 60 that followed for 1925.
