Toyota Hilux History
History
The Hilux has been Toyota's rugged global pickup since 1968, renowned worldwide for near-indestructible durability.
It reached the US in 1969; the 'Hilux' name was dropped here in the mid-1970s, after which it sold simply as the 'Toyota Pickup' (and later 'Truck') until the Tacoma replaced it for 1995. The Hilux name continues in most of the rest of the world.
