History

The Cressida was Toyota's upmarket, rear-wheel-drive sedan in the US, powered by smooth inline-six engines and positioned above the Corolla and Camry.

It effectively previewed the move upmarket that led to the 1989 launch of Lexus; the Cressida was retired in the US after 1992. The Cressida name debuted in the US for the 1978 model year.
