History

The front-wheel-drive Camry reached the US in 1983 (V10 generation) and grew into the default American family sedan, leading US car sales for many years.

The Solara coupe/convertible (1999–2009) spun off from the Camry; a hybrid arrived in 2007 and a sporty V6 XSE and Camry TRD revived performance interest in the late 2010s.

By the eighth generation the Camry had become hybrid-available across the range, with the US line moving to hybrid-only for the latest generation.
