Touring Superleggera Disco Volante by Touring History

The Disco Volante by Touring was the revived atelier's first major production series and its clearest statement of intent. Revealed as a concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, it referenced the famous 1952 Alfa Romeo C52 'Disco Volante' (Flying Saucer) experimental racing car that Touring had originally bodied for Alfa Romeo. The production car was based on the rolling chassis and drivetrain of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, retaining its 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing approximately 444 hp.

Each coupe took an estimated 4,000 hours of hand work to complete: the body is formed from hand-beaten aluminium panels, combining classic Superleggera thinking with modern carbon-fibre detailing. Production of the coupe was strictly limited to eight units, completed in 2013. The car won the prestigious Design Award at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in 2013, cementing Touring's return as a design force.

A Spyder variant — based on the 8C Competizione Spider chassis — was revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The Disco Volante Spyder featured an innovative twin-panel carbon-fibre roof structure. Production was limited to seven (some sources indicate eight) hand-built examples. Together the coupe and Spyder series established the revival-era Touring's creative and commercial identity.
