History

The Ascent debuted for the 2019 model year as Subaru's large three-row SUV, replacing the long-discontinued Tribeca. Where the Tribeca was widely criticised for its cramped third row and polarizing design, the Ascent was purpose-built for American families — with seven or eight seats, 5,000-lb towing capacity, and a 260-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four.

Standard Symmetrical AWD and EyeSight driver assistance come across the lineup. The Ascent gave Subaru its first credible entry in the competitive three-row mid-size SUV segment occupied by the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander.
