Sbarro Espera Evoluzione History

Unveiled on 3 March 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Espera Evoluzione was created by students at the Espera Sbarro automotive design school — the vocational training institution Franco Sbarro established in 1992 to pass on the atelier's craft. It represented the school's annual show car, an established tradition of student-led concept builds.

The car used a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine sourced from Audi producing 134 kW (approximately 180 hp), dressed in bodywork strongly inspired by motorcycle aesthetics — exposed mechanicals, minimal surfaces, and an emphasis on structural visibility over conventional car styling.

The Evoluzione illustrated how the Sbarro name had by the 2010s become as much a pedagogical institution as a car manufacturer, with the Geneva concept serving both as a marketing exercise for the school and as proof that Sbarro's tradition of unconventional engineering continued into a new generation of designers.
