Omoda Omoda S5 History
History
The Omoda S5 (badged O5 in Mexico) shares its architecture with the Omoda C5 crossover but is bodied as a traditional three-box sedan. It was introduced for the Russian market in 2023, where Chery's brands have seen strong demand following the exit of European and Japanese rivals, and rolled out to Mexico as the O5 in 2023 (the sportier O5 GT debuting there in August 2023).
The sedan format caters to markets with persistent preference for traditional body styles. Mechanicals mirror those of the C5 — 1.5-litre naturally aspirated or turbocharged petrol engines — adapted for a lower, more formal roofline. Mexican pre-sales opened in May 2023.
