Oldsmobile's 1990s rebirth attempt — a sleek Northstar-derived V8 luxury sedan meant to modernize the brand.

History
Released for the 1995 model year, the Aurora was Oldsmobile's high-tech flagship and a deliberate attempt to reinvent the brand's image. It introduced a 4.0-liter L47 V8 — a DOHC engine derived from Cadillac's 4.6-liter Northstar — in a rigid, aerodynamic body sharing GM's G platform with the Buick Riviera.
A second generation arrived for 2001 and, for the first time, offered a V6 (the 'Shortstar' LX5, a cut-down version of the Aurora V8) alongside the V8. The Aurora ended after 2003, with the final 500 cars built in Dark Cherry Metallic with 'Final 500' badging as Oldsmobile wound down.
