The 2000 model year
Overview
The W220 reached U.S. showrooms for model year 2000 as a smaller, lighter successor to the W140. The U.S. sedan range opened with long-wheelbase S 430 and S 500 V8 models; Mercedes-Benz's own 2006 retrospective identifies the 2000 launch as the beginning of the W220-series U.S. run.

Reliability & ownership notes
- Inspect the individual car's Airmatic or optional Active Body Control system, electronics, corrosion condition, and documented service history; generation reputation is not proof of a fault on every car.
- Match filters, ignition parts, fluids, transmission service parts, and suspension components to the exact engine, drivetrain, chassis number, and build date before ordering.
