The Thirty, launched in 1929, was Lanchester's sole straight-eight: a 4,448 cc eight-cylinder overhead-camshaft car intended as the firm's new flagship as the Forty wound down. It was an ambitious, costly machine arriving just as the Great Depression gutted the luxury market.
Only about 126 were built. The Thirty was effectively the last model of the truly independent Lanchester company: the BSA Group acquired Lanchester at the turn of 1930–1931, after which Lanchesters were built by Daimler in Coventry and drawn increasingly from Daimler designs.
