Jeep Liberty History
History
The Liberty (KJ, 2002–2007) replaced the long-running XJ Cherokee in North America, where it took the 'Liberty' name to keep 'Cherokee' free elsewhere. More rounded and car-like, it offered an available 2.8-liter diesel and rack-and-pinion steering.
A second generation (KK, 2008–2012) brought boxier styling and an available full-length 'Sky Slider' canvas roof. The Liberty was discontinued after 2012 and effectively succeeded by the 2014 Cherokee (KL).
