Jeep Compass History
History
The Compass launched for 2007 as one of Jeep's first car-based, front-drive-oriented crossovers (alongside the Patriot), built on the compact GS platform shared with the Dodge Caliber. Early Compasses were criticized for being more 'soft-roader' than Jeep.
A second generation arrived for 2017 on FCA's Small Wide 4x4 platform, with styling echoing the larger Grand Cherokee and an available Trailhawk trim for genuine light off-road capability.
