Intermeccanica Roadster (356 Replica) History

After leaving the Speedster partnership, Frank Reisner developed the Roadster RS — a replica of the 1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D — starting in 1981. The company moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1982 and established Intermeccanica International Inc. Early cars used a VW platform; a bespoke tubular chassis arrived in 1985, and a version compatible with the Porsche 911 flat-six followed in 1986.

Henry Reisner took over as president after his father Frank died in October 2001. The Roadster has been offered in 'D' and 'S' configurations (the 'S' model distinctive for its roll-up side windows), with turbo-look and hardtop variants as options. Intermeccanica became a subsidiary of ElectraMeccanica in 2017. The cars are fully handcrafted to order in Vancouver and are the primary current product of the marque, keeping a 65-year-old company alive as one of the world's few remaining coachbuilders.
