Hyundai Sonata History
History
The Sonata reached the US for the 1989 model year as Hyundai's mid-size sedan, and over multiple generations it became the brand's American volume leader and a value alternative to the Camry and Accord.
Successive redesigns — especially the sleek 2011 'Fluidic Sculpture' car and the dramatic 2020 model — pushed the Sonata upmarket, adding hybrids and the sporty turbocharged N Line.
