Introduced for 1930, the Humber Snipe was the marque's large, six-cylinder saloon, sitting below the Pullman limousine and embodying the solid, comfortable, conservatively engineered character that Humbers were known for. It was a favourite of business and official buyers between the wars.
Civilian production gave way to war work in 1940, but the Snipe's wider significance is as the basis of the Super Snipe: in 1938 Humber dropped the bigger Pullman-derived four-litre six into the Snipe's chassis and body, creating a notably quick large car. Snipe-based saloons and tourers served as British staff cars during the Second World War.
