History

Previewed as the U-Concept at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show and launched on 26 May 2019, the HS5 is Hongqi's compact luxury crossover — a C-class SUV positioned to compete with the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 in the Chinese market. A second-generation HS5 with updated styling was unveiled in January 2023.

The HS5 represents the accessible, higher-volume end of Hongqi's revived product range and has contributed significantly to the brand's explosive sales growth — from 33,000 units in 2018 to over 300,000 by 2021.
