GAZ Volga Siber History

The Volga Siber was introduced at the 2007 Moscow International Automobile Salon and entered production in March 2008, using the platform, tooling, and assembly line of the second-generation Chrysler Sebring / Dodge Stratus sedan that GAZ had purchased from Chrysler for approximately US$151 million in 2006. British studio UltraMotive redesigned the grille and headlights to give the car a distinct Volga identity.

The Siber launched into the teeth of the 2008 global financial crisis; GAZ had planned annual production of 40,000 units but only about 9,000 were built across its entire 2008–2010 run before the model was discontinued. It was the last passenger car ever produced by GAZ, ending a 76-year lineage of Gorky-built automobiles.
