FSO FSO Lanos History

After Daewoo acquired a controlling stake in FSO in the mid-1990s, Warsaw's Żerań factory began assembling Daewoo's global compact, the Lanos, in 1998. The car was originally marketed as the Daewoo Lanos in Poland; when Daewoo collapsed and General Motors absorbed its assets, the vehicle was rebranded FSO Lanos from January 2005 onward.

FSO did not have the resources to update the Lanos to later Daewoo facelift specifications, so the car continued with its original pre-facelift styling throughout the Warsaw production run. Despite this, volume was substantial: 461,655 units were assembled at Żerań before FSO ended Lanos production in 2008 to focus on the new Chevrolet Aveo.
