Essex Pacemaker History

For 1932, the fading Essex was sold under a string of renamed labels — the 'Greater Essex Super-Six,' then the 'Essex Super-Six Pacemaker,' and finally simply the Essex Pacemaker — as Hudson tried to wring more life from the brand with a performance-flavored name.

1932 was also the year Hudson introduced the Terraplane, a lighter, smaller car using the same enlarged 193-cubic-inch six as the '32 Essex. The Terraplane superseded Essex: coming off a terrible 1932, only the Terraplane returned for 1933 and the Essex name was dropped altogether. Hudson briefly carried the Pacemaker name forward, the car becoming the Hudson Pacemaker.
