Edsel Pacer History

The Pacer was the step-up Ford-based Edsel for 1958, sharing the 118-inch-wheelbase junior body with the Ranger but offering a higher trim level and the full run of body styles including a convertible. It occupied the middle of the new division's junior tier, between the Ranger below and the Mercury-based Corsair above.

When Edsel simplified its lineup for 1959, reducing from four passenger-car names to two, the Pacer was dropped after a single model year. The Pacer's convertible — one of the flashier 1958 Edsel configurations — is among the more sought-after body styles in today's Edsel collector market.
